MSM discovers masks don't work

A word to the germophobes: Don’t sit or stand next to a masked person, because then you get that fast, full, unfiltered air jet coming at you from the side gaps in their mask, as I showed a year ago.

Appearing in Bloomberg Opinion yesterday is a quick change of jersey, as Team Covid Hysteria has been increasingly ridiculed lately and may prefer to be renamed Team Reasonable.  Bloomberg has promoted mask-test-lockdown hysteria for two years, as much as the rest of MSM, but now appears to be skeptical about the use of masks, citing old research.

“Experts associated with The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota have laid out a more complex analysis: Given the current understanding that the virus is transmitted in fine aerosol particles, it’s likely an infectious dose could easily get through and around loose-fitting cloth or surgical masks.”   [1]

But Team Reality has been all over masks from the beginning.

Data analyst Ian Miller showed over the last two years that masked populations have more COVID than unmasked populations, when you compare masked vs unmasked US counties and countries around the world.  Population studies have been consistent on this, and one can see the data in the many hundreds of graphs provided by Miller on this, [2]  [3] all verifiable in publicly accessible public health reports from small and large governments around the world.

I showed why masked populations consistently have more COVID than unmasked populations.   Here are some basic take-home points on the physical aspects alone of why masking is correlated with higher rates of COVID transmission:

-          The respiratory droplets that fall in front of a speaking unmasked person are heavy enough to fall quickly and closely in front of the speaker.  However, those same droplets are broken up by the mesh of a mask to aerosol,  [4]  which is light enough to stay aloft for hours  [5]  and to travel farther in front of the masked speaker. 

-          Side jets and brow jets: Basic physics show that when you nozzle your breath out of those tiny gaps at the sides of a mask or at the sides of your nose, that unfiltered air travels farther away from you than if you were unmasked.  A word to the germophobes:  Don’t sit or stand next to a masked person, because then you get that full air jet.  N-95, surgical and cloth masks were all seen to have side gap nozzling effects.
